EMDR Intensive sessions

EMDR, like the process of traditional therapy, has an inestimable time for completion. This is because this process depends on each individual, their history of experiences, the installed messages associated with those experiences, the complexities of their trauma, and the engagement they give to the process. Additionally, the structure of traditional therapy in its one hour time blocks is often not conducive to quickly achieving processing goals, as a portion of the time is naturally dedicated to beginning and ending processing in a healthy manner. Out of these limitations, EMDR Intensives sessions were designed.

Intensive sessions are EMDR sessions but longer! Clients and clinician’s work together to determine the appropriate amount of time for processing, in either 2 or 4 hour blocks. In order to accommodate the session duration, intensives may be scheduled more flexibly within or outside of your clinician’s regular schedule.

Sessions are formatted with traditional EMDR protocol (see EMDR Therapy), in which the clinician ensures client resourcing skills, identifies targets, and applies dual attention stimulus during processing. The increased length of time means more overall processing time for clients who want to knock out their target goals faster, or for those with complex experiences that may require longer processing duration. Simply, these sessions lessen the frequency of the inconvenience of needing to pause at pivotal moments due to time, as well as other unexpected events that influence session consistency and thereby processing progress and goals (i.e. cancellations, emergencies, weather, etc.).

Requesting Intensive Sessions

New Clients

New clients who have not received current services with KNM Counseling & Consultation will have a minimum of three intensive sessions.

The first session is a one hour consultation to determine appropriateness for this program. During this consultation clients should be prepared to discuss: a) their interest in intensive programming, b) a general overview of their trauma history, c) notable thoughts/beliefs about self, and d) their current strengths, supports, and coping skills.

In the second session, clients and clinicians will begin creating the collaborative plan to target difficult memories/themes and ideas. Clients will work to identify the primary themes in their lives, the negative core beliefs about themselves, and the harmful experiences that installed and reaffirmed these beliefs. Clients will also learn EMDR specific resourcing and coping skills to support them throughout this process.

In all future sessions, clients will engage in EMDR Therapy processing the identified memories, beliefs, and experiences identified in session two until complete or client identifies session termination.

Current Clients

Current clients who are interested in receiving services with KNM Counseling & Consultation must first discuss this with their current therapist. If the therapist is trained in EMDR Therapy and able to offer intensive sessions then the client may skip the initial consultation.

Depending on desired scheduling timeframes, the client may choose to complete all EMDR processing preparation work (session one and two of the intensive program) in their weekly sessions, or in an intensive session scheduled with their therapist. When the client completes these preparation items they will then schedule their intensive processing session.

Intensive Sessions Financial Information

Intensive sessions are not-billable to insurance and therefore are only available as a self-pay service. Payment is due at the time of service.

Cancellation Policy

Scheduled sessions are subject to a 72 hour cancellation policy. Clients who fail to provide 72 hours notice for their intensive session will be charged at 50% of the full rate.

Remaining Time Refund
